Exceed Expectations?

Sally & Richard Lawrence are exemplary hosts which is why we as a family will be visiting again this year, as we have done for at least one week every year since 1989! During this long period, we have never been disappointed, whatever the time of year for our visit.

Review:
Owl Hayes and Otter Holt are two separate, fully self-contained cottages expertly converted around 1989 from a very old (17th century) barn facing onto the farmyard. The cottages are very well equipped. Maintenance of fixtures and fittings is of a very high standard with frequent replacements and refurbishments undertaken over the years we have been staying at Godford Farm. Each cottage has two bedrooms (1 double & 1 twin), lounge with digital TV and DVD player kitchen-diner with cooker, fridge-freezer, microwave, dishwasher, washer-dryer. The bathroom includes over-bath shower. There is a patio area at rear with table, chairs and barbeque and a small enclosed garden at front with car parking in farmyard directly in front of cottages. For those with very young children, ride-on toys etc. can be found in the fully enclosed orchard garden by the farm house.

Be Aware:
Godford Farm is a busy working dairy farm with a 100 plus herd of pedigree Holstein Fresian cows. Visitors are welcome to view cows being milked morning and late afternoon and children are especially encouraged to help feed the young calves. Depending on the time of year, there may be opportunities to see other farming activities too, ask Sally or Richard for details.

Local Gems:
Godford Farm is located in a quiet valley and is surrounded on all sides by the rolling Blackdown Hills. There are lots of opportunities to explore the surrounding beautiful countryside, hamlets and villages.
For those wishing to visit the seaside, Sidmouth is the nearest beach. There are many others, including some very secluded ones, along this Jurassic coastline.
There is plenty of good food and drink to be had. Just ask Sally the best places to visit, but be aware that local eateries may require you to reserve your table in advance due to their popularity!

En Route:
Over the years we have travelled via Stonehenge, Avebury and even Clarke’s Outlet Village at Street. We try to make the journey to and from Godford Farm a real part of our holiday, not just a chore to be endured!

Sum It Up:
Over the 19 years we have been holidaying at Godford Farm with Sally and Richard Lawrence and their family we have always been made extremely welcome, resulting in us having a really relaxing and enjoyable holiday every visit. Thanks Sally & Richard - see you again soon! Submitted by I & H.B from Bedford - January 2009
