We hope to build the most comprehensive database available dedicated exclusively to UK self-catering holiday recommendations - whatever your needs, budget or personal taste. We believe the site will become, arguably, the most useful tool available to the UK self-catering holidaymaker and, with your help, we aim to keep the site free to search.
Please support us by recommending your own recent UK self-catering experience. Owners of recommended properties are given the option of having a right to reply, hyperlink and late availability listing at a very reasonable price to enable the site to meet its day to day running costs. We also need to hear about those ‘Real Gems’ – you know, the places that deserve to be discovered at the beginning of your holiday rather than the end – whether it’s a pub, tea-shop, village, tourist attraction, riding stable, or just a good view.
We have chosen to restrict the site to recommendations rather than simply ‘reviews’ as we feel strongly that this should be the core ethos of the site. We wish to champion the UK self-catering holiday at its best and give the ‘good guys’ the recognition they so deserve. We know it’s deeply unfashionable to post nice things on the internet, but as we are more ‘dog hairs and Guernsey’ than ‘Dolce & Gabbana’ we hope you will understand. We happen to think it’s much more helpful to reveal those places you WILL want to stay at, rather than those you won’t
How can you trust the reviews? Well, to our mind ‘real visitors’ are the best placed people to give you an independent and well-informed account of their recent stay. The questionnaire ensures all properties are judged by the same criteria and aims to stop people just saying ‘it was lovely in Devon’ because we all know it’s lovely in Devon – we need more of a recommendation than that! However, if you read a review which in no way reflects the experience you may have had, please let us know immediately. The beauty of enjoying our UK holidays so much is that we can actually check them out for ourselves if there are any conflicting reports!
So, if you have just returned from a fortnight of rain with your mother-in-law and her dodgy hip, may we recommend you try ‘HolidaysRHell’ instead? We don’t ‘do’ vented spleens at The Real Visitors Book – far too messy and play havoc with your keyboard!
